The Gro for Good Grant Program, an initiative by Scotts Canada and it's partners, supports community gardens and green spaces across Canada. By providing financial assistance and resources, the program aims to enhance local environments, promote healthy living, and foster community engagement. Since its inception, Gro for Good has empowered numerous communities to cultivate sustainable gardens, contributing to urban beautification and food security.

Our commitment

We are committed to supporting green space solutions that improve communities throughout Canada and help our youth and communities enjoy the benefits of gardening; benefits, such as, encouraging healthy eating habits while learning how to grow your own food and the health benefits that come from being outdoors and interacting with nature and other members of the community.

Each year, Scotts Canada awards grants to deserving communities, schools and non-profit civic organizations seeking to develop sustainable gardens and green spaces.

How does the program work?

Application Period:

Applications open in January each year. Interested organizations must complete and submit their applications by February 28. Only the first 200 applications are considered, so early submission is encouraged.

The program is open to non-profit organizations, municipalities, and schools across Canada. Projects should focus on health, wellness, edible gardening, and environmental enhancement, with an emphasis on community impact and youth involvement.

Submitted applications are reviewed based on criteria like sustainability, community engagement, and positive environmental impact. Five projects that best meet these criteria are selected.

Winners are notified in the spring, typically around April. Successful applicants receive a $2,500 CAD grant to support their project.

Grants are distributed by late May or early June, giving recipients the resources to start their projects during the growing season.

Projects should be substantially completed within the same year the grant is awarded. Grantees are encouraged to document their progress and share their community impact.

At the end of the project, recipients may be asked to submit a brief report or share photos showcasing the project’s results and its benefits to the community.

Gro for Good grants are valued at $2,500 CAD and will be awarded to selected projects across Canada based on community impact, youth involvement and sustainability.

The applicants will need to demonstrate one or more of the following benefits to the community:

  • Addressing health and wellness needs
  • Growing edible gardens
  • Enhancing the environment and/or engaging with youth

Applications are now closed. We thank everyone who applied for the 2025 Gro For Good grant opportunity.
